ES excited for tourney
Conference play finally begins next week for the Eureka Springs Highlanders, but before it does they compete in the Decatur Holiday Hoops Tournament, which starts at 4 p.m. Tuesday against Northwest Arkansas Classical Academy. For the Highlanders, this is the first and only regular-season tournament they will compete in all year.
"It will be a good chance for us to get a feel for what postseason play is like," Eureka Springs coach Brian Rambo said.
Rambo is glad for the opportunity for the Highlanders to see some more good competition before conference play starts.
"It will be an advantage being able to see a few other teams in our conference before conference play starts," Rambo said. "Depending upon how things fall, a team like Gravette or Lincoln would be a good test for us."
Rambo wants the Highlanders to improve on their 9-3 record in this tournament, but he also hopes the Highlanders continue to grow as a team.
"We are far from where we need to be right now," Rambo said. "This will be a great opportunity to continue taking steps in the right direction."
More than anything, Rambo hopes his team will have some momentum when conference play starts next Monday.
"It was good, being able to get a few days off during Thanksgiving, get recharged for a few weeks here," Rambo said. "We just need to go game-by-game."
Other teams competing in the Decatur Holiday Hoops Tournament include Gravette, Haas Hall, Johnson County Westside, West Fork, Lincoln and Decatur.
