Helmlinger's 38 points help BV get easy win against GF
BERRYVILLE -- There are some nights when a player simply dominates the game. This was the case Tuesday night when Berryville's Seth Helmlinger had 33 points in the first 14 minutes of play to lead the Bobcats to a 72-23 victory over Green Forest. Helmlinger ended the night with 38 points.
"Seth was really in a rhythm and got to the foul line a lot," Berryville coach Brent Compton said. "He played an excellent game. Once he started scoring, other guys started trying to get him the ball since he had the hot hand, but overall it was a good team performance."
Green Forest coach Brandon Stone knew what it would take to stop Helmlinger, but the Tigers weren't prepared to do it.
"We had one player we couldn't defend," Stone said. "We tried switching defenders on him, we tried switching defenses on him and none of that worked. Hats off to him. We just didn't have anyone that could match up with him speed-wise or size-wise."
In the second half, both coaches removed their starters from the game and Compton said it will serve the Bobcats well getting to play some of their backups in an early-season varsity game.
"There wasn't a JV game tonight so it was good seeing some of those younger guys," Compton said. "They work hard in practice as well, so it was good getting them some varsity time and hopefully they will grow from that."
Stone said it is important for Green Forest to forget about Monday's loss.
"We gotta move forward and play," Stone said. "We are going to have to make some adjustments, step up and try to get better at some things."
Helmlinger led the Bobcats with 38 points while Jacob Johnson had 13 and Darby Foster had seven. For Green Forest, David Nelson and Rhett Williamson each scored six points.
