GF tourney a starting point for local teams
The 2015 Queens of the Court Tournament begins Monday in Green Forest with a 10-team field consisting of Marshall, Decatur, Berryville, St. Joe, Pea Ridge, Eureka Springs, Green Forest, Bruno-Pyatt, West Fork and Gentry. West Fork and Gentry both received byes into the second round.
The Lady Bobcats will use this tournament as a starting point to see where they are. Berryville is replacing four starters from last year's team. The lone returning starter is Ally Teague.
"It's going to be tough early," Berryville coach Daniel Cornelison said. "Hopefully we can use those early games to judge where we are and see where we need to improve."
Green Forest coach Kyle Farrar said he expects his team to come out and play hard.
"This is our home tournament," Farrar said. "Of course we want to win it, but we need to get better from it."
Eureka Springs (0-5) is still looking for its first victory. For coach Adam Brothers, it is all about improving.
"We are competing, but haven't broken through yet," Brothers said. "I feel like there are some teams we can compete with and get that breakthrough victory."
Greenland won the tournament in 2014.
