John Henry Harris, Jr, a resident of Berryville, Arkansas, was born November 9, 1936 in a log cabin on Middle River in Calloway County, Missouri. He returned to his heavenly home on Monday, July 27, 2015 at the age of 78.

John was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Loretta Bailey, on October 30, 1955 after meeting at the School of the Ozarks. He joined the Navy in August 1954 and retired in July 1973. After retirement, he completed his Bachelor of Education in Special Education with an emphasis in instructional resources and later completed a Master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and worked in education for many years. John loved spending time with his family, enjoyed traveling and was a lifelong photographer who loved to photograph people, places and things. He attended the Moore Free Will Baptist Church, was active in his church and a member of the Gideons. John and Loretta enjoyed attending the annual Homecoming celebration and visiting with the Class of 1955 at the School of the Ozarks.

John is survived by his wife, Loretta; two sons, Dr. Jimmy Douglas Harris and wife Debbie of Berryville, AR; son Dr. John Linden Harris and wife LaDonna of Marshall, TX; son-in-law Charlie Jones of Middleburg, FL; granddaughter Chandra Anderson and husband Donnie of Berryville, AR; grandson Erik Gibson and wife Heather of Starke, FL; grandson Jimmy Harris and wife Janet of Conway, AR; grandson Joshua Harris of Dallas, TX; great-grandchildren Aaron Harris, Ashley Anderson, Kristen and Jordan Alvard, Jaelyn Anderson, Skylar Jones, Nicholas Jones II, Brady Gibson, Bailey Harris, Evan Jones, Braylon Gibson; great-great grandchildren Adelyn Asbury and Carson Alvard; a host of caregivers, other family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Gayla Suzann Harris, and grandson Nicholas John Timothy Jones.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2015 at the Charles M. Nelson Memorial Chapel. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 01, 2015 at the Moore Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will follow the service at the Moore Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Service. Memorial donations may be made to the Gideon's International, P.O.
