Lady Bobcats headed to All-Star game
Berryville volleyball coach Kristin Whetham and two Lady Bobcat players, Aleksei Smith and Hannah Noble, will be participating in the Arkansas High School All-Star volleyball game Wednesday night at the University of Central Arkansas campus in Conway.
This is Whetham's first time to coach in the game. Noble and Smith are two of three girls from Class 4A who are competing in the game.
"We had a season that will be remembered at Berryville for a long time," Whetham said. "This group of girls was a joy to coach and they will always hold a special place in my heart."
Noble and Smith were two of seven Lady Bobcat volleyball players who graduated in May and Noble said Whetham is a coach who gave her confidence growing up as an athlete.
"I had been doing junior high (in track and field) as a freshman all year," Noble said. "But near the end of the year, Coach Whetham decided to move me up to varsity. I went out and won my first state championship in the high jump that year and that was really cool."
Whetham said she was fortunate to see Noble and Smith develop as players throughout the years and adds it is great to see them get recognized for their efforts.
"One of the things we wanted to key on at the beginning of the year was team chemistry," Whetham said. "And they were a big part of that."
Noble will be returning to Conway in the fall to high jump at UCA. Smith plans to study at the College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Mo.
