Writer's pitching leads GF
MOUNTAIN VIEW -- Hastin Writer turned in another solid pitching performance as the Green Forest Tigers defeated Mountain View 3-2 on Thursday.
Writer struck out seven batters and allowed three hits in seven innings.
"As the season has gone on, Hastin has gotten more command of his pitches and our thing was to throw with confidence," Green Forest Coach Tony Coffey said. "He had them baffled and he impressed everyone who was there."
Riley Walker had two hits to lead the Green Forest offense while Caleb Lucas, Baylor Deislinger and Writer added one.
The Tigers entered the bottom of the seventh leading 3-1, but a Yellowjacket triple to start the inning put the game in question. Writer got the next Mountain View batter to popup to center. A fielder's choice scored the runner from third, but with two outs, a flyout to Reece Carlton in right field ended the game.
The Yellowjackets scored in the second inning and held Green Forest hitless in the first 3 1/3 innings. But a Writer triple in the fourth got the Green Forest bats working. A Deislinger single scored Writer and a Walker double advanced Deislinger to third. A Brandon Hogan sacrifice fly to center scored Deislinger for a 2-1 Green Forest lead.
The final Green Forest run came in the fifth inning. With two outs, Lucas was hit by a pitch. He stole second and scored on a single to left by Gavin Nelson.
"Early last week we worked on base running," Coffey said. "We have to take the next base when we can and that was the difference. They had a little bobble in the outfield and our guys were looking for it."
Green Forest travels to Flippin on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
