Bobcats fall to Flippin for 2nd time
BERRYVILLE-- It was the the Berryville offense that struggled in the Bobcats' first meeting against Flippin. On Monday, it was the defense that couldn't stop Flippin in a 10-5 loss.
Berryville only had four hits and stranded seven baserunners in the first matchup on March 17. On Monday, Berryville was within 7-5 before Flippin scored three runs in the top of the sixth to pull away.
A leadoff single, followed by two stolen bases and then another single, accounted for Flippin's first run of the inning. Another single and a hit batsman loaded the bases, and Flippin scored again on a fielder's choice. Flippin scored its final run of the game on a wild pitch, making it 10-5.
With Berryville trailing 3-0 going into the bottom of the first, Thomas Trowbridge hit a leadoff double to left field and scored on a single by Davis Stone.
Stone advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Robby Broseus, who advanced to second on a throwing error and reached third on a single by Seth Helmlinger. A Ferguson groundout scored Broseus and moved Helmlinger to third. A passed ball scored Helmlinger for a 4-3 Berryville lead going into the second.
Flippin regained the lead with three runs in the top of the second -- all with two outs. Flippin strung together three consecutive hits to score its first two runs of the inning, then added another run on a Berryville error.
Stone was walked to start the bottom of the third, then moved to third on a groundout by Broseus and scored on a Helmlinger single to cut Flippin's lead to 6-5.
Flippin added a run on an RBI triple in the fifth to extend its lead to 7-5.
Berryville will play at Green Forest at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
