Eureka Springs to host state golf tournaments
Eureka Springs has been selected as the host school for the 2015 Class 2A boys and girls state golf championships.
The tournaments will be held at Holiday Island Golf Course, with the girls events scheduled Sept. 28-30 and the boys a week later, Oct. 5-7.
Eureka Springs Athletic Director Brian Rambo is looking forward to hosting the tournament.
"We have, I think, 2,700 hotel rooms and 70 or so restaurants," Rambo said. "We look forward to showcasing our town and facilities and hopefully bringing the people back."
Rambo said the bid to host the tournament wouldn't have been possible without the cooperation of the people of Holiday Island.
"Our golf course at Holiday Island is obviously a challenging golf course, and that's a big part of it," Rambo said. "But the people of Holiday Island really wanted to see us host it and that was the main driving force behind it."
Rambo knows hosting the tournament will not be easy, however.
"It's going to take upwards of 70 to 75 volunteers," Rambo said. "Our athletic booster club will have to step up and give a lot of time and energy. I mean, it is a big event to put on with 70 golfers, both boys and girls over the span of two weeks, so it is a big deal."
This will be the first time Eureka Springs has hosted a state golf tournament.
