Berryville officer kills pit bull

Friday, December 19, 2014

A Berryville police officer shot and killed a pit bull Monday afternoon when the dog attacked the officer, police said.

Although an official report on the incident wasn't complete by Thursday afternoon, Berryville Police Lt. Robert Bartos gave a brief account of the incident.

"One of our officers got dispatched to a pit bull running loose in the neighborhood," Bartos said. "There were two officers. One walked up to the house to let the individual know their pit bull was running loose and the pit bull came out from the neighbors' yard and knocked the officer in the yard down and the dog was coming at and he drew his weapon and fired."
