Blood drive slated Friday in Eureka Springs

Community Blood Center of the Ozarks (CBCO) will hold a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, at Eureka Springs Hospital.

CBCO has issued a Code Yellow Alert for O-negative and B-negative blood types. There is currently less than a two-day supply of this type on hospital shelves and donations are needed immediately.

Donors who give blood during the 20th annual Miracle of Giving Blood Drive, which continues through Jan. 4, will receive a 50 percent bonus on LifePoints. LifePoints is CBCO's donor rewards program that lets donors trade points for gift cards, wearables or donations to other area not-for-profit organizations. More information on the LifePoints donor rewards program may be found at www.cbco.org.Donors to CCBCO provide all of the blood for patients at thirty-seven area hospitals. Every five minutes on average, a transfusion takes place. It takes around 250 donations each day to meet the area's blood needs.

Donors also may give blood from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at CBCO's Springdale Donor Center, located at 3503 S. Thompson, or at CBCO's Bentonville Donor Center, located at 1400 SE Walton Blvd.
