Ferguson earns all-conference honors
While Tate Ferguson wasn't pleased with how the Berryville football season went, he was pleased with an individual accomplishment he had been working on throughout the year.
Ferguson, a senior defensive end who also played quarterback and fullback for the Bobcats, was named to the 4A-1 All-Conference team.
Ferguson said he knew once the season began going downhill, if he wanted to be remembered for something, he better start playing with a little bit more passion.
"The season wasn't that great, obviously, but I wanted to get something for myself so I stepped my game up, and hopefully helped step my teammates' game up as well," Ferguson said.
Berryville Coach Lee Atkins said Ferguson is the kind of player every coach wants to have on his team.
"Tate is one of those guys that is always ready to go," Atkins said. "Whenever he is called upon, he will do anything you ask of him."
When asked which position he enjoyed the most, Ferguson said fullback.
"With that one, you can go and pretty much hit anyone you want to," Ferguson said.
Ferguson hopes to attend college and do something in physical education while continuing to play football and baseball.
Ferguson had 97 tackles, one sack and one recovered fumble on defense. Offensively, he rushed the ball 68 times for 338 yards.
