HOLIDAY ISLAND -- The Holiday Island Board of Commissioners will hold a special meeting Monday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. (please note time change from their usual 9 a.m. meeting time).

The agenda will be the 2015 budget, approval of the August financial reports and the district manager's and department heads' reports, which were cancelled from the Oct. 27 agenda, and an interview with attorney Matt Bishop on providing ongoing legal services.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held at the district office at 110 Woodsdale Drive.

  • To NHRIpropertyowner

    Think you might be there?

  • It would be helpful if the BOC would explain their plans to deal with the increasing deficits for the golf, food and drink welfare program.

Now, you are obviously an intelligent person, something that appears to be in woefully short supply on the BOC, WHY would you even think that the HISID Commandos would want to let anyone know what is going on at the meetings ???

Hell, in all honesty, they've got things SOOOOOOO screwed up that even they have no idea what the cause and effect of their actions, or lack thereof, are leading to. Nor do they care !

All they, and most of the populace here who refuse to formally GET INVOLVED, is to let things go the way they have in the past. They don't care about what the majority of the population here want ----- and will DO NOTHING until they are forced to.

As MAKEDON said "He had several owners call him concerned about the possibility (more like certainty for anyone with half a brain !) the study possibly concluding the nine hole course should be shut down" and so Makedon, and to be fair the rest of the totally financially inept BOC, didn't want it to be considered as an option .

So they voted to spent the $25K to $30K to generate a piece of totally worthless garbage ---- that they'll just ignore anyway!

What about the DOZENS of residents that want the whole **** golf operation shut down to stop the hemorrhaging of AOB money. He, nor the rest of the BOC, doesn't seem to bother listen or even care what those owners have to say.

ALL the BOC wants is cheap golf, and plenty of it !

  • Quoting RHIpropertyowner, "What a JOKE! Per the following link HISID has not published any minute meetings on their website for OVER A YEAR.

Perhaps a good question for the meeting would be why the BOC is not posting current information for homeowners to access online.

If BOC board members are unable or unwilling to provide a reasonable reason then perhaps they should asked to resign so someone can be elected who will get the job done.

Those who do not stand up and demand the deficit spending be brought to stop are as guilty as those who are deficit spending. Those who do not demand the current welfare program end ( http://roxiehoward.com/HISID/Welfare3.jpg ) are giving the BOC consent to keeping it going.

The sale of food at the County Club at reduced prices -- I have been told that at times it has even been at less than cost -- creates unequal competition for local restaurants with deficit spending. It is morally wrong and it economically wrong. Homeowners need to demand the Golf Pro be terminated and the subsidized-deficit-spending food service be ended. Those who do not demand this practice end are as guilty as the board members for its practice.

  • What Holiday Island needs, is the experience of an old lot sales war horse; someone with lot sale experience and a proven record of successfully selling lots.

If lot sales begin again, the dollar problems begin to be easier to manage. I was told that Holiday Island has sold three lots in the past three years, and one of those resulted in a law suit. If that is accurate it is sad reflection on the management the past three years.

I never once said I had all the answers. That's a myth started by Holiday Island fox, who are trying to find ways to trap golfers in order to avoid being trapped by golfers.

((I was told Holiday Island forced the gentleman protesting the trapping of foxes to take down his banner which read, "Save a fox, trap a golfer.")) I am sure there must be an ordinance banning humor on Holiday Island.

  • Here's a posting that appeared recently on the "Motion to put Developer on the Ballot Fails" article. It appears we do have some new people taking interest in the BOC's repugnant leadership:

It has become very obvious that an organization needs to be started to follow the actions of the BOC, understand the state statutes, and take actions to pressure the board or replace them. This will take the efforts of several people to start such an organization and some money for website development and hosting. Once an organization is available and has a decent sized membership, we can take action as a group. I'm afraid this is the only way we can salvage what is left of HI and the investment we have made there. I would be willing to help if others have a similar interest.

Welcome Larryh ! I applaud your interest, but I will point out one possible flaw in your "solution". You seem to be outlining the formation of yet another "focus group" or "study committee". History here seems to show that they get nowhere --- look at where the last "White Paper/Incorporate into a city committee" got. I don't even know if they got to the point of making a final recommendation to HISID.

Not that our BOC would have listened anyway ------ THAT BEING THE MAIN PROBLEM !

But you may have just hit on the one that will succeed.

You do need to find some way of letting people know how to contact you, if you intend on forming a watch-dog group.

  • FYI

Lost Bridge Village is a POA

Bella Vista is a POA n City

Cherokee Village is POA or SID n a Village

Past n Present BOC members have made some serious in error decisions. Their backgrnds are in working 4 corporations, not running businesses. They sit in their comfortable corporate offices making decisions for the betterment of said corporation. Worse case senerio they make bad decisions, they are fired.Financial lose is no paycheck for themselves. Here at HI, the poor decisions made past present are affecting every property owners via the increased AOB, loss of property values, not just the pocket books of the BOC.

  • Given all these issues, can Holiday Island be saved? http://holidayislandar.blogspot.com/2014/11/can-holiday-island-be-saved.html

    What do you think?

-- Posted by roxielynn on Sun, Nov 2, 2014, at 10:04 PM
  • Well --

Their work on balancing the budget was to shift some things to the next years budget, a proposed increase in water rates, a proposed new debt; however, the sacred cow was left untouched pending a study, which may or may not take place.

The District Manager appears to love the idea of putting the SID in debt as a solution. More debt with declining income moves the SID one year closer to looking like Detroit - Bankruptcy, crime, drug dealers.

They did not discuss how to restart a lot sale program to create revenue. Just over 90 lots went back for taxes on top of last years 800. Add 90 more pins to the map http://holidayislandar.blogspot.com/

The Board Members seem arrogant to me, they appear to run over homeowners, and from my perspective the unfriendly to homeowners who speak up.
