BV poised to make state run
The Berryville Lady Bobcats will play in the Class 4A state volleyball tournament next week at Lonoke, as either the first or second seed from the 4A-1 conference.
Berryville played Shiloh Christian in the championship game of the district tournament Thursday night in Gentry. The results weren't available at press time.
The Lady Bobcats (18-3) advanced to Thursday's march with a 23-25, 25-18, 25-10, 25-13 victory Tuesday over Prairie Grove.
"I don't think we came out ready to play that first set, but we got that one out of the way and picked things up in the second, third and fourth set, and we won," Berryville Coach Kristin Whetham said.
Ally Teague helped the Lady Bobcats come out on top, as she had 24 kills on 41 swings. Misty Rhymer had a team-high 71 assists and Abby Nickle led the team in digs with 49.
A victory against Shiloh Christian on Thursday would make the Lady Bobcats a No. 1 seed in the state tournament and set up a 4 p.m. match against Clinton on Tuesday in Lonoke. A loss Thursday would make Berryville a No. 2 seed, and the Lady Bobcats would take on Central Arkansas Christian at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
Whetham she said her team should be prepared for anyone that stands in the way of a state championship.
"If we come out and take care of business and do what we know how to do, and do it well, like we should be doing by now, then we should have a chance of making a run at state," she said.
