Lady Tigers open season with 2 victories
The Green Forest volleyball team began its bid to return to the state championship match Monday night, defeating Yellville-Summit 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16.
Considering it was the first match of the year, Green Forest Coach Trista Killingsworth was pleased with the way her team performed.
"We hit all the way around and we had really good passes, which was something we had been working on," Killingsworth said. "It was also our first conference victory so that is important to get that win and that confidence."
On Tuesday night, the Lady Tigers had a little more difficult time against Cotter. Green Forest won the match 25-10, 22-25, 25-14 and 25-19.
"This group is kind of goofy," Killingsworth said. "They can become complacent at times."
Killingsworth said she was her team didn't have to play a fifth set.
"Cotter has a tradition of hustling, even with young players," Killingsworth said. "And they did. I knew that they would, so I was nervous, but I always am."
Killingsworth said Green Forest's chances to make another run at a state title depend on whether the Lady Tigers continue to improve as a team.
"We just have to continue learning how to play with each other," Killingsworth said. "Its still the beginning of the season, so even though we did a lot of preseason stuff we still have areas to work on."
