The Green Forest golf team went to the Diamond City golf tournament Monday in Rogers and won its first boys tournament in several years.

Bruno-Pyatt, Lead Hill and Bergman were the other schools that were in attendance, but the only school that was a threat to Green Forest was Bergman.

At high school golf tournaments, four people can register to play, but only the top three scores count. Green Forest finished at 156, one stroke ahead of Bergman's 157.

"They hit the ball well and the scores could have been lower than that," Green Forest Coach Kyle Farrer said.

David Nelson led Green Forest with a 49. Brandon Hogan shot 52 and Reece Carlton and Gavin Nelson each shot 55.

Farrer said balance was the major reason the Tigers came out on top.

"We didn't have one of those days where someone shot 10 strokes above someone else," Farrer said.
