Berryville council keeping an eye on weather forecasts

Friday, September 19, 2014

The Berryville City Council will wait and watch the weather before setting a date for the city's annual fall leaf and limb pickup.

At its meeting Monday, the council discussed the possibility of starting the event earlier this year after hearing predictions of early winter precipitation. But the council decided not to set a firm starting date yet.

"We are going to do it, and we'll get the word out as soon as we can," Mayor Tim, McKinney said during the meeting.

The council also approved an ordinance to establish millage rates for the 2015 calendar year. The city does not have any mandatory property taxes but there is a voluntary one-mill tax to help for the maintenance of Berryville Memorial Cemetery.

Jay Lee, administrative assistant to the mayor, said the ordinance approved Monday was not a change.

"It's just a procedural step we have to take every year to make sure taxes are put on tax bills by the county," he said.

A discussion of the 2013 audit report was tabled for the next meeting, which will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14.
