No one was injured when a fire broke out Saturday morning at a home on Walnut Street in Green Forest, but the house was a total loss.

Green Forest Assistant Fire Chief Ed Phillips said homeowner James Johnson and two family members had left the house to attend a family reunion but forgot a couple of items. When they returned to retrieve the items around 9:30 a.m., the back of the home was already in flames.

Phillips said the fire department arrived on the scene around 9:40 a.m. and stayed there until 7:30 p.m. extinguishing and monitoring the fire.

It was fully involved when we got there," he said, noting that the house is still standing but is a "total loss."

Volunteer firefighters from Berryville and Oak Grove helped put out the fire, with the Green Forest Police Department directing traffic around the debris.
