Team roping at GF Cowboy Church

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

The Green Forest Cowboy Church's name says most of what needs to be said. But it still works to spread its Biblical message and while some churches use gyms for basketball and sand pits for volleyball, the Green Forest church uses team roping and rodeo events as an outreach. On Sunday, the church held one of its regular events, a team-roping competition with no entry fee. It was held at the church's arena north of Green Forest on Arkansas Highway 103. Before the event started a memorial was held for area resident Lonnie Williams, who passed away suddenly July 14. His horse, Rock, was led around the arena in a memorial walk by his granddaughter Lexey Williams.

Roping the head is just the start. The heeler has to catch both feet, though one is acceptable but there's a time penalty added.
Former team roping national champion Mark Gordon waits his turn.
It takes a lot of stock to hold a team roping event.
