Green Forest drops regional baseball outing in season finale
LAVACA -- Green Forest had it's baseball season come to an end Saturday with a 15-5 loss to Charleston in the 1-3A Regional Tournament.
The Tigers scored five runs on four hits and took advantage of three Charleston errors. Clayton Watson led Green Forest with a double and single. He drove in a run and scored one in his prep finale.
Gavin Nelson and Hastin Writer added a single each.
Devin Taylor absorbed the loss on the mound, lasting 3 2/3 innings. Taylor surrendered 10 runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out one. Andrew Writer picked up two innings of relief, giving up five runs on six hits, three walks and three strikeouts.
Charleston scored four times in the first inning before the Tigers responded with three runs in the third to close the scoring gap. But the black and gold Tigers added four more in the bottom of the frame, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and four in the sixth that ended the mercy-rule affair.
In the third inning, Green Forest scored after Treyton Anderson drew a one-out walk and went to third when Dalton Coffey reached on an error. Andrew Writer chased Anderson home with a single, Coffey scored on a fielder's choice and Hastin Writer singled and scored after a Watson single.
The Tigers plated two runs in the sixth. Nelson drew a leadoff walk and scored on a sacrifice by Nelson.
