Lady Tigers suffer season-ending loss to Danville in opening round
GREEN FOREST -- Green Forest had it's season come to an end in penalty kicks Tuesday afternoon at Danville as the Lady Tigers dropped a 2-1 decision in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Alexandria Fernandez gave Green Forest a 1-0 advantage 15 minutes into the first half. But the Lady Little Johns scored the equalizer with 20 minutes left in regulation to force overtime.
"Danville came out harder and scored off a corner kick with 20 minutes left in the second half," Green Forest coach Bradley James said. "We had time to get another goal in the last 10 minutes. We had several opportunities but couldn't find the back of the net."
The Lady Tigers did find the back of the net in the penalty-kick session as Freida Lopez slipped one past the goalie on Green Forest's second attempt. But the Lady Little Johns scored on their fourth and fifth attempts to notch the win.
"It was very disappointing, especially for our seniors to end on penalty kicks," James said. "But we made lots of improvement from last year."
Stephanie Perez found the back of the net later in the first half for Green Forest. But a foul was called during the play and the goal nullified.
