Green Forest drops extra-inning affair to Cedarville in 1-3A Conference Tournament
CEDARVILLE -- Green Forest dropped a 5-4 extra-inning decision to Cedarville Saturday afternoon as the Pirates outlasted the Tigers in eight innings.
Devin Taylor absorbed the loss on the mound, pitching a quality seven innings, allowing 10 hits, walking one and striking out seven.
Andrew Writer paced the Tigers at the plate with a pair of singles while Daulton Coffey, Gavin Nelson and Caleb Lucas added a single each.
Green Forest led 1-0 in the first inning when Treyton Anderson drew a leadoff walk and later scored on a wild pitch.
The Pirates answered in the second and Green Forest reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fourth. Reece Carlton walked to start the inning and Carlton reached on a bunt. Lucas singled to load the bases and back-to-back walks to Anderson and Coffey plated Carlton and Nelson.
Cedarville knotted the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the frame and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth. The Tigers sent the game into extra innings when Clayton Watson hit an inside the park home run with one out.
Green Forest advanced to the regional tournament and will play the No. 2 seed from the west at 12:30 Friday afternoon in Lavaca.
