DANVILLE -- Molly Montez netted her first career hat trick Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs. But it wasn't enough as the Lady Highlanders suffered a season-ending loss to Danville.

Montez scored all three goals in the first half, including the first of the game just 22 seconds into the match. After a 3-3 tie in regulation, the Lady Little Johns won the affair with a 3-2 performance in penalty kicks.

"I told our girls after the game that they could be disappointed in the result," Eureka Springs coach Daniel Moose said. "But not a single one of them has a right to be disappointed in themselves."

"We only had nine girls," Moose added. "But we looked the better team most of the game. We traded goals with them but never trailed."
