EUREKA SPRINGS -- It's that time of year again: no, not springtime, but tax time. At Windle & Associates, Certified Public Accountants, Rusty Windle has built a diverse client base during his 22 years in business in Eureka Springs.

"We do a lot of tax returns," Rusty acknowledged. "We serve individuals, small businesses, farms and retirees."

Each of those areas requires a specific approach, and Windle & Associates has the experience to handle a variety of returns. Rusty, for example, grew up on a farm in central Arkansas, and that background gives him some additional insight into serving the agricultural community.

Many people with simple returns don't need professional help, but things can get complicated very quickly.

"We know what to look for, what questions to ask, to maximize deductions," Rusty said. "We take time with a client, especially when first getting to know them, to make sure they get the best possible service."

People are naturally concerned about their privacy in financial matters, and Rusty said his company guarantees absolute confidentiality.

After the tax deadline, Rusty said he plans to take a whole day off, then get right back to the year-round business of bookkeeping and payroll. In addition to his local clients, he has clients literally from coast to coast. Some of these clients moved away from here and liked the service so well that they maintained the business relationship.

"We cater to the specific needs of each business we serve," Rusty said. "We won't recommend services to them they don't really need."

Rusty said he has been grateful for opportunities to serve the community which has supported him. He spent nine years on the Eureka Springs School Board, seven of those years as president. During that period, student proficiency scores rose from 49 percent to 91 percent. He was also one of the original board members of the Carroll County Community Foundation.

"It's gratifying to know that the foundation will keep supporting local groups forever through its endowment," he said.

Rusty is currently serving on the board of the Greater Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce.
