Friday, January 31, 2014

BERRYVILLE -- Jerry King of Green Forest has been elected to a three-year term on the Carroll Farm Service Agency County Committee.

King and his family operate a poultry and cattle farm north of Green Forest.

The election was held by mail in January for a term that begins in February. Committee members are limited to serving three consecutive terms, and this will be his third.

Carroll County is divided into three local administrative areas for FSA purposes. LAA-2 includes the communities of Denver, Farewell, Green Forest, Hugh, Maple, Oak Grove, Omaha and Urbanette. King was elected by other farmers and ranchers in LAA-2 to represent their interests on the County Committee.

David Combs, also of Green Forest, was elected as his first alternate. Ronald Himmelberg and Susan Himmelberg of Omaha were elected as second alternates. Alternates may serve in the event a regular member is unavailable or incapacitated.

The FSA County Committee oversees delivery of USDA programs at the local level. It meets quarterly to conduct its business and act on applications. King's fellow committee members for 2014 will be Geneice McCall of Eureka Springs and John Howerton of Berryville.

The Carroll County FSA office is located at 909 Freeman Switch Rd. in Berryville. The local office staff would like to thank each of the candidates and all of the producers who voted. Producers wanting more information about the programs and services administered by FSA are welcome to stop by the office or call 870-423-2767. USDA/FSA is an equal opportunity employer and provider.
