Closings and cancellations

CARROLL COUNTY -- Due to the inclement weather and road conditions, several places have been closed, and various organizations decided to postpone or cancel meetings and other events.

The Berryville, Eureka Springs, Green Forest and Alpena school districts have called off school for today, Dec. 13.

All Carroll County schools were also closed on Monday through Thursday, as well as last Thursday and Friday. Northark's Carroll County Center in Berryville was closed Dec. 5 through 13, too.

The Western Carroll County Ambulance District meeting scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10, was cancelled.

County Judge Sam Barr closed the courthouse Thursday, Friday and Monday. Barr also ordered that all county offices were closed Dec. 5, 6 and 9 due to the inclement weather.

In the Western District, the scheduled court date of Dec. 6, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. was rescheduled to Jan. 3, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. If you were scheduled for the December court date, you have automatically been rescheduled for the January court date. Any fines for December court date citations may be paid between now and Jan. 3.

Green Forest District Court was cancelled for Dec. 6 as well. All cases have been rescheduled for Jan. 3.

All Carroll County libraries (Green Forest, Berryville and Eureka Springs) were closed Thursday through Monday.

The Carroll County Historical and Genealogical Society's board meeting on Tuesday and Christmas party on Thursday were cancelled due to the road conditions.

The Berryville Community Center closed at 4 p.m. on Thursday and remained so until Monday. The center closed early -- at 5 p.m. -- Monday night.

Loaves and Fishes Food Bank was closed Monday and Tuesday.

Berryville PTA Breakfast with Santa was postponed until Saturday, Dec. 14 from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Berryville Bobcat Youth Wrestling Club cancelled its practice Thursday night.

The Green Forest FFA Christmas party has been postponed.

Due to construction on the Sixth Street Ditch in Green Forest, Sixth Street will be closed to traffic between S. Springfield and Thorne during the current weather episode until further notice.

Both the Berryville and Green Forest Tyson Foods first, second and third shift production departments were cancelled for Friday. The second and third shifts were cancelled on Thursday as well. All shipping, maintenance, sanitation and wastewater personnel were expected to report as normal.

DuCommon LaBarge was closed Friday and Saturday, and Brashears Furniture in Berryville was closed on Friday as well.

Green Forest tentatively rescheduled its Christmas parade and craft fair for Dec. 21, but the Chamber of Commerce indicated it might need to be cancelled altogether. Berryville cancelled its Christmas parade. Eureka Springs rescheduled its parade for Monday, Dec. 16.

The Eureka Springs Preservation Society Tour of Homes was rescheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. The Eureka Springs Chamber of Commerce Birthday Party was rescheduled for Dec. 17 at 5 p.m.

Thursday's Omaha Border Classic semi-final SR boys basketball games were postponed. A makeup date will be determined at a later date.

Experience the Light at The Great Passion Play was cancelled last weekend, Dec. 6 and 7. The live Nativity performance (6:30 and 7:30 p.m. performances) and Christmas celebration in the Great Hall will resume this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13 and 14, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and continue on Dec. 20 and 21. The drive-through light display was scheduled to resume on Monday night.

The 47th Annual Silver Tea in Eureka Springs was postponed until Friday, Dec. 13 -- same time, same place.

Eureka Springs' Santa in the Park for Dec. 7 was rescheduled for Dec. 14.

The John Two-Hawks concert scheduled for Saturday at The Auditorium in Eureka Springs was postponed until next Sunday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m.

The Brian Free concert at Pine Mountain Theater was cancelled, and as was the season passholder potluck luncheon.

Several Eureka Springs restaurants and businesses closed due to the winter weather.

Café Amore in Eureka Springs was closed this weekend as well. Simply Scrumptious Tea Room and Emporium will be closed until at least Tuesday. Eureka Springs Family Clinic and Rockin' Pig Saloon were closed on Friday.

In Holiday Island, the Holiday Island Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary cancelled its White Elephant sale on Saturday, Dec. 7, and will reschedule at a later date. The Holiday Island Planning Commission cancelled its Friday, Dec. 6 meeting and will meet in January unless there is a call for a permit; then the board will hold a special meeting. The Holiday Island district office closed Thursday morning. All facilities: Recreation Center, golf courses and Clubhouse are closed.

Due to weather, Saturday's concert by the College of the Ozarks Bell Choir at Holiday Island Community Church was postponed. It will be rescheduled as soon as possible, according to Jim Swiggart.

A lot of churches cancelled their Sunday, Dec. 8 services due to the road conditions, including First Assembly of God in Eureka Springs, First United Methodist Church in Eureka Springs, Valley View Baptist Church, Freeman Heights, Grandview Baptist, Antioch, Kings River, Towering Oaks Church, Southern Heights, Eureka Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and Green Forest First Assembly. Berryville Baptist had a single service at 11 a.m.

First Assembly of God, on Highway 103 North in Green Forest, has postponed its Christmas program until Sunday, Dec. 15 at 10:45 a.m. Friend Day has also been moved to that date.
