HI Planning Commission issues three new home permits

Tuesday, November 5, 2013

HOLIDAY ISLAND -- After a slow year, the Holiday Island Planning Commission issued three new home permits at its Friday meeting, bringing the total to six so far this year.

While that is not many, HIPC commissioners noted that only two home permits were issued all of last year.

Ralph Lemme of Design Builders obtained Permit #2274 to build a 1,650-square-foot house at 88 Arapaho Drive for property owner Tom Parrish.

F.T. Hamblin obtain Permit #2275 to place a 1,280-square-foot mobile home at 315 Stateline Drive.

Robert Guzman of United-Bilt Homes obtained Permit #2276 to build a 1,901-square-foot home at 5 White River Lane.

The Planning Commission said Friday it was playing "musical chairs" and changing some officers. Myrna Peterson is stepping down as chairman, to be replaced by W.E. "Corky" Comstock. Peterson will take over the secretary position, and Mickey Finefield will become vice-president. Nile Carrothers will continue as treasurer.

Those who have questions about permits, complaints or other matters should call Comstock at 479-253-7511.

In other business, the commission issued Permit #2273 to Tara Lawson to build an 840-square-foot garage at her property at 91 Table Rock Drive, and Fred Holz obtained approval to place a shed at 75 Lakeside Drive.

The commission regularly meets the first Friday of every month at 9 a.m. at its office in the Park Shopping Center at 1 Parkcliff Drive, Suite D. Permits and related requests are considered first, followed by other business. For more information, visit www.hiplanningcommission.com or call Corky at 479-253-7511.

  • OK! Let me say this one more time for effect. The HIPC is "not" let me repeat is "not" the revered "Committee of Architecture" named in the Covenants of HI. The Holiday Island Planning Commission is a privately held corporation which has purloined the authority, (limited though it was) of the COA. Any attempt they make to collect fees for building permits or "extensions" thereof, is tantamount to extortion. So Mr. NRHI, they should not have a "strong vibrant website"! They should lock the door, throw the keys on the roof, and go home. Tom Dees should reinstitute the Committee of Architecture and direct them to operate within the law.

Just a small fact have lived!

  • How many new home permits would have been applied for had there not been 2 frivilous lawsuits filed against HI, or for that matter, how many people were persuaded to go elsewhere by the nasty and venomous comments to these news storys by a small minority?
