Bob and Paula Ahart, 106 Holiday Island Drive, were named recipients of the Holiday Island Garden Club's annual Garden of the Year award.

The Aharts moved to Holiday Island approximately three years ago and began the task of removing river rock from their yard and installing rock-bordered flower beds, rock walls, a lush grass lawn, numerous plantings and a beautiful water fountain. The backyard features a wood carving of two eagles, their nest and a baby eagle.

Four beautiful gardens were nominated for Garden of the Year; the committee had a challenging task in judging the gardens.

Those receiving honorable mention include Bob and Karole Anastasi, 95 Beaver Drive; Mary Diehl and Sue Dillard, 23 White Oak Drive; and Connie Stielow, 289 Holiday Island Drive. The Holiday Island Garden Club members would like to thank the homeowners who participated.

A special thanks to Stephen Shogren and James Lann, members of the Photography Guild, who accompanied the Garden Club committee and photographed all of the beautiful gardens.
