Margaret Lucille Murphy (Fifer) McGriff
Margaret Lucille Murphy (Fifer) McGriff, a resident of Berryville, AR, was born Sept. 5, 1920 in North Manchester, IN, the daughter and only child of Donald Geneva (Reed) Murphy. She arrived in heaven on May 9, 2013 at the age of 92.
Margaret had been a beautician for some years. She was a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a gifted artist in every sense of the word. Her neighbor and life-long friend, Betty, partnered in running a gift shop in downtown Eureka Springs over 50 years ago. Margaret made beautiful enameling on copper items and Betty made candles that were unique, she being an artist as well. In her final years, Margaret painted several pictures for friends at their request and hadn't lost her touch.
One of Margaret's most treasured experiences was the six months she spent with her husband, Bill in Cameroon, Africa doing mission work at the leper colony. She taught the women and a few men to sew, plus do crafts. She had an adventurous life, having lived in American Samoa and Guam due to Bill's job at the time. When back in Arkansas she and Bill were cast members of "The Passion Play," which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Margaret was a member of the Freeman Heights Baptist Church and loved her church family so very much. The feelings were mutual. She started "Bakers and Takers", a way to welcome all visitors, and was dedicated to her job, she also signed, addressed, and mailed out birthday cards to all church members. She loved serving the Lord and after writing her memoirs for family members, she titled it "Still Serving." There's no doubt she still is! She also enjoyed the monthly meetings of "Ladies of Faith."
Margaret had many friends who will miss her dearly, but surely feel blessed to have known her. She loved her family more than anything and was a fantastic mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She had a smile that would light up a room and her laughter was a joy to behold. She was truly a beautiful woman, inside and out -- one who will be greatly missed by many.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters, Susan and husband Victor Rapisarda, Patricia and husband Steven Petelle; two sons, Timothy and wife Mary McGriff, David and wife Evon McGriff; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Carlton Fifer and William David McGriff.
