Cast members of the Holiday Island Theater Guild's production of "Lily, the Virtuous Seamstress" pause for a photo during dress rehearsals: Seated in front are Jeremiah White (played by Mary Diehl), Mrs. Merriwellborn (Phyllis Williams) and Goodman Schubert (Rick Ragan); standing are Merlin Skirmahorn (Bill Harris), Lily White (Clare Thompson Roy), Frank Merriwellborn (Brian Byerley), Trixie (Donna Harris), Fluffy Feathers (Barb Rassfeld) and J. Sedgewick Sludge (Curt Swartzlander). Uproarious hijinks ensue in this old-fashioned musical melodrama, "Lily, the Virtuous Seamstress" written by Alice McDonald with music and lyrics by Carol Zadnik and directed by Elise Buchman. Boarding house owner Jeremiah White has fallen on hard times, as his bum leg prevents him from his usual job as an upholsterer, and the tenants in his boarding house, slinky siren actress Trixie and excitable actress Fluffy Feathers have fallen behind in their rent. Jeremiah's daughter, the virtuous seamstress Lily, has taken on the job of sewing a new wardrobe for wealthy Mrs. Merriwellborn. Lily falls in love with Frank, Mrs. Merriwellborn's son. Meanwhile, villainous slipper theatrical producer J. Sedgewick Sludge and villainous broken-down Shakespearean actor Merlin Skirmahorn plot to strip Mrs. Merriwellborn of her great fortune. Honest theatrical producer Goodman Shubert appears on the scene looking for the perfect person to star in his upcoming production. The play, put on by the Holiday Island Theater Guild, will be presented on stage on May 16, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Holiday Island Cubhouse Ballroom.
