Berryville wrestling squad takes to mat in Little Rock

BERRYVILLE -- Berryville will be represented well in the 5th Annual Arkansas High School Wrestling State Tournament slated for Friday and Saturday in Little Rock.

A total of 11 members of the squad will converge on the Jackson T. Stephens Center at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday with finals at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Seniors Tyler Coatney and Ross Morton take to the mat for the final time of their Bobcat careers. Coatney wrestles in the 152-pound weight class while Morton is registered at 195.

Tristen Payne, Selvin Reyes and Jake Parks represent the junior class with Payne weighing in at 160 pounds, Reyes battling at 170 and Parks at 220. Parks is expected to be a contender for a state title in his first year.

Sophomores making the trip include Joel Sipes, Justin King, Hernando Ramirez and Leanna Wilson, the lone female. Sipes wrestles at 120 pounds and was runner up at 106 pounds as a freshman. Wilson is in the 132-pound class, King is at 145 and Ramirez tops out in the heavyweight class.

Garrett Record and Griffin Payne are the two freshman entries. Payne weighs in at 138 pounds while Record is signed up for the 182-pound division. Record has only one loss on the mat this year and is one of the favorites entering the event.
