Tuesday, November 27, 2012

EUREKA SPRINGS -- The annual Elks Hoop Shoot will be held at noon on Jan 12, 2013, at the Eureka Springs Middle School gymnasium.

The hoop shoot is a free-throw shooting contest for boys and girls ages 8-13.

Participants from Berryville, Cassville, Eureka Springs, Green Forest and Huntsville are expected to compete in three age groups -- 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

Winners will advance to the state hoop shoot held Feb. 1, 2013, in Hot Springs. State winners will continue to Springfield, Missouri, for nationals on April 18-21, where the champions will have their names inscribed on a plaque hanging at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

This is the 41st year the Elks have sponsored the event with over 3,000,000 boys and girls from all 50 states competing to reach the finals.

Green Forest's Billy Evans won first place in the state and advanced to regional action last year.
