Berryville School District is working to spread the message that next week, Oct 22-26, is National School Bus Safety Week. This year's theme is "I see the driver and the driver sees me!" Berryville School District is taking every step and precaution to ensure the safety of its students, said Owen Powell, assistant high school principal and director of transportation. The district transports more than 1,200 students over 1,300 miles each day. "Our goal in the transportation department is to get our students to school and returned home as safely as possible," Powell said. "We would like to ask the people of Berryville and our surrounding areas to use a little extra caution and slow down whenever they see the big yellow buses coming down the road or if they are loading or unloading with lights flashing." State and federal laws require that cars stop when red lights on a school bus are flashing.
