Green Forest splits pair of conference outings

BERGMAN -- Coming off a straight set win over Eureka Springs on Tuesday, Green Forest suffered a tough five-set 1-3A Conference loss at Bergman on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers eased past the Highlanders 25-10, 25-2 and 25-5 before going the distance with Bergman. The Lady Panthers cruised to a 25-11 win in the first game before Green Forest rallied to win the second game 26-24. Bergman climbed Game 3 by a score of 25-21 and the Lady Tigers answered again with a 25-21 victory in the fourth. But Bergman took control in the fifth, winning 15-5 to seal the win.

The Lady Tigers moved to 7-5 in division play with games at Flippin on Monday and at Alpena on Tuesday rounding the regular season before heading into the playoffs.

Senior Tara Harrell led Green Forest at the net with seven kills, adding a dig to her totals. Sophomore Payton Watson followed with five kills, adding nine digs and five blocks.

Megan Newberry played strong on the back line with 16 digs, followed by junior Anna Blach with 10. Blach also contributed with two kills and a pair of blocks.

Junior Keylen Bell recorded eight digs, junior Kelsey Deckard had seven, Jaelyn Anderson added six and sophomore Emily Glassell chipped in two. Junior Audrey Foster added three blocks, two kills and a dig.

Alpena is currently positioned atop the conference standings with a 12-0 division record, losing only to Mountain Home and Berryville.
