BERRYVILLE -- Local authorities are searching for a suspect who allegedly attempted to abduct a 17-year-old Berryville girl on Saturday.

Police said the victim was approached at approximately 8:28 p.m. on Sept. 29 by an unknown white male as she was walking home from work on South Springfield Street.

The suspect grabbed the girl and shocked her with a stun gun, police said.

"Fortunately for the girl, she was able to kick and scream, and the suspect fled on foot," said Berryville Police Chief Dave Muniz. He remains at large, he said.

"Things like this don't normally happen in our small town ... and we are in the processing of gathering additional evidence against the suspect," added Muniz.
