Two honored at Green Forest chamber banquet

GREEN FOREST -- Two Green Forest residents were honored at the annual Green Forest Chamber of Commerce banquet on Saturday, Sept. 22.

Joe B. "Buster" Powell and Gene Reece, both lifelong residents of Green Forest, were recognized for their community support and involvement throughout the years.

Powell was presented with the 2012 Hero of the Year Award:

"Buster was granted the hero award because he has been a life long community anchor willing to help anyone who is need and has never sought out any recognition for is good deeds," said Chamber President Ross Darby. "He deserved the award."

Reece was presented with the 2012 Person of the Year Award:

"Reece has an invaluable memory when it comes to community activities, events and sports," said Darby. "He is a fixture at almost every event in in town and everyone knows him."

Past chamber board members were also recognized for there many years of volunteer work to the chamber and on behalf of the citizens of Green Forest; Cassie Smith, Suzette Jackson Maynard, Tammy Goins and Bryan Hodge were among those recognized.

Superintendent Matt Summers delivered the keynote address and was introduced to Green Forest community.

Mayor Charles Reece also spoke about his vision for the city during a small State of the City address.

Dinner was served to the 150 patrons at the start of the banquet, with chicken donated by Tyson Foods.
