Father arrested after baby, mom hurt

Javier B. Martinez, 18, was arrested by the Berryville Police Department on Monday, Aug. 6 after he injured his infant son and girlfriend during an argument, police said.

According to a police report, Martinez started to wreck the house when he and his girlfriend, began to argue after she had friends over at their apartment while he was at work.

When police arrived they found the door to the apartment open, a 1-year-old child crying in the arms of his mother and Martinez surrounded by broken household items.

Martinez allegedly fractured his infant son's leg, caused bruising around the temple area and caused a cut to the child's foot from broken glass.

The child was taken to Mercy Hospital and his leg was put in a splint. The girlfriend had a bump on her head, bruising and red marks on her neck and a scratch on her leg, according the police report.

A prior incident was reported to police on Aug. 1, 2011 by the grandmother, but the department was unable to act because a statement was not given by the girlfriend.

Martinez has been charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, third-degree domestic battery and first degree assault on a family or household member.
