GREEN FOREST -- LeAnn Gurley will join Green Forest Elementary School as the K-5 music teacher this fall.

The Green Forest School Board met Monday to approve her hiring. Gurley taught last year at NWA Head Start in Huntsville, and she is a graduate of Harding University with a Master of Arts in Education.

In other business, the school board approved construction of new end zone seating on each end of the football field. The bleachers will house the home and opposing teams' bands for football games.

The cost for the new bleachers will be approximately $43,000; this does not include the cost of the new fencing around the field, concrete pads to construct the bleachers or the

red-accented foot guards on the risers, it was noted..

The school board also approved a bid for roofing on Grim Gym, contingent on references. They plan to use Rawlinson General Contractors from Paragould to install the new roof. The cost of roofing will be approximately $179,000 and it should be completed by September.

In student business, the school board approved student policies for the 2012-13 handbook with a focus on truancy and detention. The board added an amendment to a policy that will not allow seniors with excessive absences to walk with their graduating class.

This rule had previously been implemented, but the amendment would require that all students receive a separate letter stating this as part of the requirements for graduation.
