Authorities: Road-sign thefts are no joke

Wednesday, July 18, 2012

BERRYVILLE -- Carroll County Sheriff Bob Grudek and County Judge Sam Barr are asking for assistance in solving numerous road-sign thefts throughout Carroll County, mainly the County Road 420 sign.

Judge Barr advised that this has been an ongoing problem for years and the Road Department has replaced this sign and other signs numerous times.

In a press release, Barr and Grudek noted that "420" is symbolic for cannabis, or marijuana, and authorities have gotten the joke, but it's not funny.

Thieves of road signs are potentially placing someone's life in danger if first responders can not locate the person in need in a timely manner because the road sign has been stolen, they said.

Anyone with information on the person(s) responsible for the thefts of this sign or any other county road sign should contact the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 870-423-2901 or the Carroll County Judge's Office at 870-423-2967.
