I love the summer. It's kind of easy going -- sports-wise -- but I have plenty to keep me busy. I'm enjoying photographing a lot of different stuff to help provide coverage of a wide variety of subjects for the Carroll County News.
I enjoyed photographing the CICA concert last week at The AUD for the News; I'm looking forward to photographing Woodstock-era hit Melanie -- you know, "I've got a brand new pair of roller skates, you've got a brand new key" -- also for the paper; and I enjoy photographing Opera in the Ozarks for myself -- but you'll see my coverage in the great musical venue in the Carroll County News, too.
All of this is to say I really like doing photo coverage of a wide variety of subjects. But I'm especially looking forward to the coming athletic seasons and photographing sports I haven't done before, or at least photographed very much.
I want for the pages of the Carroll County News to be like one continuous photo-story. I look forward to showing you all the things that make athletic events so enjoyable and so much fun.
Fall is going to be hectic and I already see myself going in three different directions at once. But fortunately I have other sources of photographs and coverage besides myself. You'll see some other names under pictures besides mine. Some of the names you'll recognize and some you may not.
Regardless, we at Carroll County News are all going to work hard to bring you the best in action photography and quality reporting, beyond just a list of the numbers and box scores.
Let's see, there's football, volleyball, golf, cross county and wrestling. But let's also add in those activities that support other sports, for example, what would it be if under the Friday night lights there wasn't -- the cheerleaders, or the band. I look forward to showing you those activities, too.
My goal is to bring to you, within these pages, the faces and activities of your kids and grandkids, your friends and neighbors. If you know them, great. If you don't know them then this will be a way to introduce them to you to them.
I love the Razorbacks, and have used columnists on occasions -- in particular Nate Allen. But my first duty is local sports. If you see Nate's word on these pages I want it to be because he has said something important about sports beyond Carroll County.
Since the summer is that slow time I would like to throw out the invitation to be a guest columnist.
Do you have something you'd like to cover or write about? In the past new Green Forest Superintendent Matt Summers has written regular columns about fishing.
Are you pretty good with words? Do you have a sport or recreation you are knowledgable about? Or do you have something you'd like to say about sports and recreation in a positive way? Give me a call about semi-regular or guest columns. Call CCN at 870-423-6636 and ask for me. I look forward to hearing from you.
