HOLIDAY ISLAND -- The Veterans Memorial Park on Hwy. 23 North will soon have a new addition: a statue of a soldier.

The statue is being purchased as a joint project by American Legion Post 36, the Post 36 Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 77, and individual contributions. It will be erected on the corner next to the Pavilion. The statue is coming from Uncommon Statuary and Decorative Concrete in Sioux Falls, S.D. and will sit on a base fabricated by local company Eureka Stone.

Although the company calls it "Iraqi Freedom Fighter," it is intended to honor all soldiers.

"The statue will be a tribute to our fallen soldiers from all wars," said post member Don Naas.

A dedication ceremony will be planned once the statue is in place, said Post 36 Commander Clint Miller.
