Sunday, June 24, 2012

BERRYVILLE -- The Carroll County Republican Committee held its annual county convention on Monday, June 18 and ratified candidates for the fall general election.

In addition, members of the County Committee were elected to serve as delegates to the State Republication Convention, to be held in Hot Springs next month.

The delegates chosen at the county convention on Monday are: Don McNeeley, Sharon Hoover, Dave Hoover, Ed Leavell, Mary Leavell, Albena Link, Kay Blan, Barbara Saylor, Bob Girkin, Kathy Girkin, Garry Deramus, Eva Reeve, and John Reeve.

The county delegates will provide input on the party platform, vote on the platform as well as ratify the party's nominees for the fall election.

Also at the county convention, Ed and Mary Leavell were elected as State Committeeman and Committeewoman for Carroll County.

Republican candidates present at the convention on Monday included Bob Ballinger, who is running for state representative in District 97; Sheriff Bob Grudek, running for re-election to his position; and Andrew Wilhelm, running for county judge.

During the meeting, discussion included the formulation of plans for another pancake breakfast event to raise funds for nonprofit organizations benefiting the needy in Carroll County. In recent years, the Carroll County Republican Committee's pancake breakfasts have raised $9,000 that was donated to the Berryville Senior Activity Center, Wildflowers in Eureka Springs and the Green Forest Library.

With corporate match programs, total donations exceeded $13,000. Organizers noted that every penny raised went to local nonprofits.

A date for the next pancake breakfast has not yet been set, but it will be announced in the Carroll County News as soon as plans are finalized.

The next County Committee meeting is set for 7 p.m. on Monday, July 16 at Forest Hill Restaurant on Highway 62 in Eureka Springs. Members of the public interested in participating in Republican party activities are welcome to attend.
