BERRYVILLE - A 58-year-old man missing since mid-day Tuesday was found dead on Wednesday around 1:45 p.m. in a heavily wooded area just off of County Road 733 between Metalton and Rudd in the southeastern part of the county, authorities confirmed this morning.

Albert Eugene Rich, 58, was found 200 yards from his residence, Carroll County Sheriff Bob Grudek said.

Rich's body will be sent to the State Medical Examiners Office in Little Rock for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

Wednesday's discovery followed an intense search and rescue mission involving teams from Carroll, Benton, Madison and Newton counties in heavily wooded, steep areas, Grudek said. The search began in the area of the discovery early Wednesday morning.

Carroll County S.O.R.T team, Benton County Sheriff's Department (which provide a helicopter), Forestry Service personnel, Carroll County Deputies and two volunteers from Eureka Springs provided two aircraft, all took part in the search.

Grudek also praised the Mennonite community for their voluntary support in finding Rich.
