"This year's Carole Hilmer 5K Run/Walk on April 21 was a huge success," said organizer Joan Kratzer. "After all of the expenses were tallied we are able to send a check for $4,045 to the University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center in honor of Carole."

Seventy participants signed up, including 16 runners and 54 walkers. In addition to Arkansas, runners and walkers came in from Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas, Missouri and Connecticut to participate.

The event kicked off with a dinner and silent auction at Holiday Island's Geraldi's Restaurant, with the auction raising $573 and restaurant donations of $1 per dinner totalling $300. The following morning, The Arvest Junior Bank Board hosted a pancake breakfast that brought in $215.

"We would like to thank all our sponsors this year for their generous support," said Kratzer.
