Rural HI fire district ISO rating drops from 9 to 6

Wednesday, May 23, 2012

Homeowners served by both the rural Holiday Island (HIRFD) and district (HIFD) fire departments may be happy to hear they can possibly have their homeowners' insurance rates lowered because of new ISO (Insurance Services Organization) ratings.

The ISO rating was last done 11 years ago, but in July of last year Holiday Island Fire Chief Jack Deaton turned in paperwork for a new review.

Almost a year later, the ISO sent back its May 10 decision: the rating for the rural fire district has been lowered from a 9 to a 6, but the district department remains at 5.

  • 11 years to request a new ISO rating? Come on, this should be submitted/reviewed yearly. Or minimally every other year. This is unacceptable.
