State to hold info session on Green Forest Highway 62 expansion

The city of Green Forest has been grappling with the possibility that U.S. Highway 62 may be diverted to a route north or south of town. Through environmental impact studies and a flurry of appeals from Mayor Charlie Reece and other concerned business people and citizens, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department has remained tight-lipped on whether it plans to move the highway or widen the current route through town.

On Thursday, June 21, the wait for information could be over as the Highway Department will hold a drop-in informational session at the Green Forest Alumni Center from 4 to 7 p.m.

All interested individuals or businesses are invited to attend the session, which will include maps with proposed routes for the expanded highway, and Highway Department officials will be on hand to answer questions. Residents may also fill out comment forms to leave for Highway Department officials to look over at a later date.

In other upcoming events from Green Forest, the Patriot's Day celebration will be held from noon until fireworks are over that night. Several area churches have been invited to participate for the event which they hope to make bigger and better than ever this year with more food, more fun and more games.
