GF athletes recognized -- Standouts honored, scholarships awarded at ceremony

GREEN FOREST -- Throughout the season Green Forest athletes were playing for the honor of their school. But last Tuesday evening it was time for the individual athletes to be honored for their performance on the field.

Scholarships, plaques and certificates were awarded to dozens of Green Forest's athletes.

Awards presented were:

Cheerleading -- Most Valuable Captain, Maria Beltran; Most Valuable Choreographer, Abbie Tanner; Most Valuable Character, Jessica Brooks; Most Valuable Cheerleader, Ashlin Smith; Most Valuable Cheerleader, Whitney Harp.

Cross Country -- Boy - Martin Maravillas; Girl, Yarixa Hernandez.

Football ­-- MVP- Ramsey Walker; Offensive Line- Quinton Humbard; Leading Tackler, Ramsey Walker; Leading Rusher- Brian Badley.

Girls Track -- High Point,Katelyn Goodman; Outstanding Field Event, Jessie Kilbourn; Outstanding Sprinter, Katelyn Goodman; Outstanding Distance, Sara Rincon

Volleyball -- Oustanding Defensive Player, Kaleigh Evans; Outstanding Server, Katelyn Goodman; Tiger Hustle, Vanessa Etchison; Outstanding Offensive Player, Jessie Kilbourn; MVP, Makynna Jorgensen.

Boys Track -- Outstanding Field Event, Kolby Burnett;Outstanding Sprinter, Weston Alvar; Outstanding Distance Runner, Martin Maravillas; High Point, Kolby Burnett.

Baseball -- MVP, Treyton Anderson; Defense, Devin Taylor; Offense, Clayton Watson; Tiger Hustle, Jordyn Mullins

Scholarships were also presented to four senior athletes. The scholarships were given in memory of two women with strong ties to the Green Forest athletic program ­-- Anita Stone and Kayla Morgan LaMae Grigg.

Tiger Booster Club vice- president Kelly Greer presented the boys scholarship to Josiah Mullins. She presented the girls scholarship to to Kaleigh Evans.

Brandon Stone, son of Anita Stone, presented the boys scholarship to Tanner Marr. He presented the girls scholarship to Tara Mullen.

Ramsey Walker won the Brandon Burlsworth Award. Melissa Rangel won the Alberto Medina Award as the top Green Forest soccer player for the year 2012.
