Summers named new GF schools' super
BERRYVILLE -- The Green Forest School Board late last Thursday voted 5 to 2 to hire Matt Summers as their new superintendent of schools.
Summers will start is new position in July.
After the meeting, board members Jerry Carlton and Jerry King asked that it be made public that they were the "no" votes and that they were in favor of hiring interim superintendent Andrea Martin for the position.
But member John Bailey said that overall, the board is eager to have Summers join the district staff.
"The board took 14 or 15 applications, narrowed it to four interviews and after hours of discussion, I believe the board made the right decision."
Summers, who has a doctorate in Educational Administration from Lindenwood University, has been with the Berryville school system for 15 years, including six years as the middle school principal, three years as the high school assistant principal and six years as a teacher and coach.
Summers said, "I am very honored and excited about the opportunity to lead such a wonderful school district. I was very impressed with the board and the direction and vision they have for Green Forest schools."
The decision was announced after Friday's Weekend edition of the Carroll County News had gone to press.
