Seniors can apply for $50 coupons to buy farmer's market food

The Area Agency on Aging of Northwest Arkansas (AAANWA) has announced that it will be administering the USDA Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) throughout its nine-county service area, which includes Carroll County.

The program will provide one $50 coupon book, per household, to senior adults 60 years of age and older to purchase locally grown fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs and honey at local farmer's markets from approved vendors.

Eligibility criteria to receive the coupon book is a monthly income of $1,723.00 for a family of one, $2,333.00 for a family of two, $2,944 for a family of three, or $3,554 for a family of 4 (add $611 for each additional family member).

Senior adults that meet the income guidelines will receive a coupon book on a first-come first-serve basis when distribution begins at the local senior activity centers.

In Carroll County the coupon books will be distributed on May 10, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Carroll County Senior Activity Center, 202 West Madison Ave., Berryville.

Nadean Raney, director of senior center services for AAANWA said, "We are excited to be administering this program, bringing it to our service area and helping senior adults have fresh fruits and vegetables in their homes."
