Schools from across the state competed in the 2011-12 Elks Lodge Americanism Essay Contest recently. According to Jennifer Wilkes, the Americanism Chair for the Holiday Island Elks Lodge #1042, they submitted entries from students in Berryville, Green Forest, Eureka Springs, Cassville and Huntsville, which make up division 5 for the contest.

For the second year in a row, Berryville students took the top three spots in the seventh, eighth and ninth grade division with Jaiden Tedder winning first place, Katelin Johnson in second place, and Hollie Poynter in third place.

Wilkes went on to add that Katelin's essay took the overall top prize in the state for her grade level, which was quite an honor for her and Berryville Middle School.

Green Forest's Emily Lindstrom and Cheyenne Zimmerman took the top two spots in their division.

In the fifth and sixth grade level, it was a pair of Tigers who took the top two spots with Cheyenne Zimmerman winning first place and Emily Lindstrom winning second place.
