Writer named winner of design competition
Abbie Writer, the daughter of Jeff and Tera Writer of Green Forest, was chosen as the winner of the Carroll County Design Our T-shirt Contest.
The contest was sponsored by the Carroll County Bible Reading Marathon Committee which will present Abbie with her own T-shirt featuring her design at the "Awakening" youth rally on Saturday, April 28, at the Berryville Community Center.
Abbie is a 16 year-old home schooled student. Her design showcases the National Day of Prayer theme from Psalms 33:12 "Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord."
Her grandfather Wayne Writer, pastor of First Freewill Baptist Church, encouraged her to enter the contest.
Abbie said she waited until the last minute to make a design and believes God gave it to her.
"My design tells people that our nation is hanging from the cross," she said.
Abbie is a farm girl and a great cook, says her mother Tera Writer.
"She makes cookies for the whole church every Wednesday," Tera said.
Members of the Carroll County Bible Reading Marathon hope she will share this talent and provide some of the refreshments for the Bible readers on the Berryville Public Square during the marathon, which is scheduled for April 29 through May 3.
Abbie, who also enjoys reading, working on the computer, playing the piano and singing, might sing and play the piano for the youth rally as well.
Event organizers extend a thanks to all youth who sent in entries and say they look forward to next year's contest.
